GOLD CUP RIVALS
If there’s such a thing as a Gold Cup rivalry, the USA and Panama fall into the category. The two sides have met nine times in the tournament, and at least once in each of the last six competitions. The USA’s 5-1-3 edge in the tournament includes victories in the 2005 and 2013 Championship Final, but Panama has landed their blows as well. Los Canaleros handed the U.S. its only Group Stage defeat in the tournament, coming in a 2-1 win in 2011, and also bested the USA in the Third-Place Match during the 2015 edition. Across all competitions, the sides have played to three consecutive 1-1 draws, with the most recent result in a World Cup Qualifier in Panama City on March 28, 2017.
