UNION ADD YOUTH AND DEPTH IN THE GOAL

While the PHILADELPHIA UNION may have the top goalkeeper in the MLS in ANDRE BLAKE, they took a big step today in the depth department at that position by signing  22 year old goalkeeper Carlos Miguel Coronel.  Coronel is a talented young native Brazilian , who has been honing his craft with Red Bull Salzburg from Austria.  The deal has been described as a one-year loan that also gives the UNION the option to buy out the contract of Coronel should they choose to do so.

“Carlos is a young goalkeeper who I am of course familiar with from my time at Red Bull Salzburg,” commented sporting director Ernst Tanner in a club release.   Tanner took over the reigns as sporting director in Philly after the departure of Ernie Stewart to the USMNT.  “He possesses impressive athleticism for his size and we believe he has terrific potential. This is an appropriate step for him at this point in his career and we are looking forward to helping him integrate with our first team as well as improve alongside Andre Blake, Matt Freese and the other young goalkeepers from our academy.”
